March 19, 2014| Is It Selfish to Pray for Myself?

Question:
I pray for others but I'm uncomfortable praying for myself. I don't want to bother God, my issues are trivial. I'm told I should pray for myself though, any advice?

Response:

Start. Praying for yourself doesn't only mean making requests for earthly things or situations. You can begin by asking God to draw you closer to Him, ask Him to open your eyes to see things the way He does. Also remind yourself that God tells us to come to Him and make our requests known to Him by prayer and supplication (Philippians 4:6). Ask yourself this, "if Jesus prayed for Himself why won't I?" Be encouraged, God doesn't see His children as bothers. He sees us with love and compassion wanting us to reach out to Him. He knows it all but He wants us to understand the process and build testimony by proving Him true over and over again. Growing in The Lord involves us seeking and finding in Him. He says we don't have because we don't ask. I hope this helped :)
