There comes a time in life that we realize in order to live we must let go. You're probably thinking "what in the world are you talking about?" Okay, let me explain. In life we have these moments of disappointment, it comes from ALL angles- family (oh boy!), friends, relationships, careers and dreams. The disappointment, though, is not the problem. I repeat, disappointment is NOT the problem. What is the problem? The problem is how we deal with the disappointing event.
Let's ask ourselves a question: How do I deal?
I said I would be honest right? Okay, so I admit it took a loooong time before I could realize AND admit that I had "dealing" issues. Disappointments made me angry, I am talking Hulk Smash! angry (its OK, you can laugh). The worst disappointment came from blood relations, family. The never-ending questions you ask yourself and the nonstop thoughts racing through your mind all day and night can wreak havoc especially when you need your beauty rest, am I right!
Anyhoo, back to the matter at hand. At first I wallowed in pity and anger at the person who hurt me most. Not healthy. It took away the ability to see what was good in my life, who has not hurt me, how I am not like my offender. I had forgotten to look on the bright side. There's always a bright side to disappointment. So I prayed and God did help me to see through the darkness (pardon me as I get poetic). Some may scoff but that's alright, it was God and prayer that brought me to where I am now- Back on the brighter side of life.
So now, I am asking you, how are you dealing? Just getting by to get through the day? Still 'Hulk Smash!' pissed? That's okay too, just don't let it ruin you. Don't let bitterness take up space in your life. I am pretty sure you're a fantastic person with incredible amounts of talent, love and skill. So that job was given to someone else, the dream you've been working towards has had a set back, that relationship ended or that family member hurt you so bad you can't even find the words to express it... Do not let these disappointments stop you!
Disappointments, used correctly, can be springboards to great things. (At the risk of sounding cheesy) There are many No's but it takes one Yes to get you started on the right path. Say 'Yes' to yourself today and see what happens.
*Let me know how it goes.*
